Roberto Kel Torres
He started to sing, before he could talk, they say. Inspired by his father, a singer himself, Roberto Kel Torres discovered his passion and talent for music in his early youth. It was already at the age of 3 when he performed for his family and friends in Cuba.As a teenage boy he sang in various regional bands.
In the age of 17 he began his career as an opera singer at Cuba´s national opera. He gained a solid classical training, which still is the basis for his musical skills. For four years he performed in Cuba including shows in Austria and Spain.
But popular music still had its spell on him, and so began to perform in international dance shows and musicals like “Havana night”, that also brought him to Las Vegas (USA) and to different places in Germany.
Big names in show-business, like US American producer and director Kenny Ortega who worked with Michael Jackson and choreographer of movies like "Pretty in Pink (1986), "Dirty Dancing" (1987) and Michael Jackson's film "This Is It" admire his talents.
Since 2007 Kel Torres has been on tour with his band of 5 and now 6. The “KEL TORRES Band” is very popular amongst the German Salsa community. But also those who are not so familiar with Salsa love him. In the first place its his extraordinary voice – never to be forgotten if heard once. Plus his impressing performance on stage, his interesting and widespread repertoire – ranging from powerful dance tunes to beautiful romantic bolero songs – that makes him gain the admiration of a growing audience.
It was him who introduced the German language into salsa which bridges cultures like no one else does. Kel Torres embodies the "Multikulti-Culture" of Germany, and especially of Berlin. His song "Alle lieben Berlin" (Everybody loves Berlin" is the theme song of Berlin.
Television and radio stations have discovered KEL TORRES a while ago. Funkhaus Europa and SAT 1 featured him in their morning shows and "Reuters" shot a report called "Deutsche Salsa von KEL TORRES", which has been repeatedly broadcasted in many countries like the US, Mexico, Spain, Chech Republic, Austria and England.
His latest smash hit was the „Festival Son Cuba“. KEL TORRES was the star of this concert tour of Cuban music (24 concerts in Netherlands, Switzerland and Germany in May 2010)
